Classic Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies have a soft, fudge-like center and a cracked powdered-sugar surface that forms naturally as they spread in the oven. The dough needs at least 2 hours of chilling before baking, so plan for about 2 hours 30 minutes start to finish.

Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Preferably Dutch-processed for a richer taste
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 0.25 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 0.75 cup granulated sugar
- 0.25 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs Preferably at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract Pure for the best flavor
Coating
- 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, sieve together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. This ensures a smooth batter.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar and vegetable oil until well combined and slightly fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time to the sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a dough forms.
- Use a spoon or dough scoop to form 1-inch balls and roll them in confectioners' sugar until well-coated.
- Place the balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are firm. The centers should be slightly soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Lori’s Tips
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute some of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
- To make the cookies more festive, add a pinch of cinnamon or cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
