These bakery-style Chocolate Chip Muffins have a tender crumb, a domed top, and plenty of chocolate chips throughout. Vanilla and a touch of sour cream keep the texture moist without making the batter dense. They bake in about 20 minutes and are best eaten the same day.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly combined.
In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and egg. Whisk until you achieve a uniform mixture.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix – a few lumps are perfectly fine.
Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few to sprinkle on top of each muffin for decoration.
Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake for about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean and the tops are golden brown.
Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate chips or adding a pinch of cinnamon.
If you're looking for a dairy-free option, substitute the milk with almond or oat milk and use a dairy-free spread in place of butter.
