Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Rolled oats give these chocolate chip cookies a chewier texture and slightly nutty flavor compared to a standard drop cookie. The dough comes together in one bowl and the cookies bake in about 11 minutes, making them a straightforward option when you want a homemade batch without a lot of fuss.

Ingredients
For the Dry Components:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour use premium quality for best texture
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt fine sea salt
For the Wet Components:
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup packed brown sugar light or dark depending on preference
- 1 large egg room temperature for better incorporation
- 1 tsp vanilla extract pure vanilla extract for deep flavor
For the Other Components:
- 3 cups old-fashioned oats not instant
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk chocolate
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the oats and chocolate chips using a wooden spoon or rubber spatula.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a chewier texture, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
- To lighten the meal, substitute half of the butter with applesauce.
