Magic Cookie Bars
Magic Cookie Bars are built in layers directly in the pan: a melted butter and graham cracker base, a pour of sweetened condensed milk, then chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts on top. The condensed milk binds everything together as it bakes, creating bars that are chewy, crunchy, and sweet all at once. They take about 30 minutes to bake and need only a short cooling time before cutting.

- 1 Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs finely ground
- ½ cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 ounces
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 ⅓ cups sweetened flaked coconut
- 1 cup chopped nuts pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
- Press the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form an even crust.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust.
- Evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped nuts over the condensed milk layer.
- Press down gently with a spatula to compact the layers slightly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the coconut begins to toast.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into 12 squares.
Notes
For a softer texture, underbake slightly. Substitute nuts with raisins or other dried fruits for variation.
