Decadent Mud Pie
Mud pie layers a crunchy chocolate cookie crust with a fudgy chocolate filling and a thick layer of whipped cream or ice cream on top. The bittersweet chocolate flavor is balanced by the cool, creamy topping. Assembly takes about 30 minutes, and the pie needs a few hours in the freezer or refrigerator before slicing.

Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 ½ cups chocolate cookie crumbs preferably Oreo
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter melted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
For the Filling:
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips high quality
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup heavy cream
For the Topping:
- 1 cup whipped cream
- 1 tablespoon chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cookie crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.
- Press the mixture firmly into a 9-inch pie dish to form an even crust along the bottom and the sides.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then set aside to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the chocolate chips, butter, and heavy cream. Stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.
- Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled crust and spread evenly with a spatula.
- Refrigerate the pie for at least 2 hours to allow the chocolate to set.
- Just before serving, spread a generous amount of whipped cream over the pie and garnish with chocolate shavings.
Notes
- For a nutty twist, consider adding a thin layer of chopped roasted pecans or almonds between the crust and the filling.
- If you're lactose intolerant, substitute the heavy cream with a coconut cream equivalent for a tropical hint.
