Inspired by the rich, nutty flavors of French pastries, this Brown Butter Chocolate Tart blends the buttery essence of browned butter with luscious dark chocolate. This dish offers a sublime experience that melds the deep aromas of toasted hazelnuts with the smooth texture of creamy chocolate, making it a perfect ending to a gourmet meal.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. Add cold butter cubes and use your fingertips to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg yolk and mix by adding water gradually until a dough forms.
Press the dough into a 9-inch tart pan evenly. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the crust for 15 minutes until golden. Set aside to cool.
For the Filling:
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until the butter browns and releases a nutty aroma. This takes about 3-5 minutes.
Pour the browned butter over the chopped chocolate. Let sit for 1 minute before stirring until smooth. Let cool for a bit.
In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until pale and thick. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract.
Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until just combined.
Pour filling into the cooled crust and bake for 25 minutes until the filling is set but still slightly wiggly in the center.
Let cool completely before serving.

Tammy’s Tips:
For added flavor, sprinkle sea salt over the chocolate filling before baking.
Consider substituting dark chocolate with milk chocolate for a sweeter version.
To make the tart gluten-free, replace the all-purpose flour with almond flour.
